In collaboration with experts from Williams Fire & Hazard Control (USA), DNM Industrial Firefighting, and RelyOn Nutec Fire Academy, this four-day training delves into combating large-scale fire incidents. The program combines theoretical instruction with hands-on exercises across various operational scenarios, including fire dynamics, foam and dry chemical applications, and the logistics of firefighting.
Foam Academy Europe
The #1 Fire & Hazard Training for high-risk industries, the WILLIAMS Xtreme Industrial Fire & Hazard Training, is coming to Europe! From Monday, April 14 to Thursday, April 17, 2025, the Foam Academy Europe will take place for the first time – a leading firefighting training program for professionals from high-risk industries such as the oil, gas, and petrochemical sectors.
Foam Academy Europe
A key component of the program is the use of fluorine-free foams. This innovative and environmentally friendly approach is explored both theoretically and practically, providing participants with directly applicable knowledge.
An official WILLIAMS Xtreme Event!
Williams Fire & Hazard Control has deployed equipment and specialists worldwide to nearly 300 industrial incidents, ranging from flammable and combustible liquids to pressurized gases. These incidents have occurred in diverse scenarios, including storage tanks, processing facilities, liquid and gas pipelines, offshore vessels, train derailments, and more.
With patented, custom-designed firefighting systems and mobile response technologies, Williams has been a global authority for over 40 years in tackling the most complex industrial emergencies. Each incident is unique, but common challenges include complex fire dynamics, logistical obstacles at the incident site, a wide range of response tactics utilizing systems and mobile resources, and effective methods for fire suppression and vapor mitigation.
For 33 years, Williams Fire & Hazard Control has shared lessons learned from its experiences through the annual “XTREME Industrial Fire & Hazard Training” in the U.S. Brent Gaspard states: "Williams Fire & Hazard Control is proud to recognize ‘Foam Academy Europe’ as an official ‘XTREME’ training for the European market."
Learning objectives
Participants will gain in-depth knowledge of key aspects of emergency response through a combination of classroom lessons, case studies, and hands-on live fire exercises. The training focuses on understanding fire dynamics, applying advanced tactics, and effectively utilizing environmentally friendly extinguishing methods. Additionally, participants will learn to work with innovative foam types and suppression techniques, equipping them to better handle large-scale fire incidents in complex industrial environments.
Focus areas of the training
The evolution of firefighting foam in the industry and the transition to fluorine-free foams.
Application speeds and densities tailored to different emergency scenarios.
Logistics of large-scale incidents.
Equipment applications, including:
Pump operation
Foam proportioners
Hose management and friction losses
End equipment such as nozzles and monitors
Foam applications for:
Leaks and spilled liquids
Fuel fires with significant depth
Program
On Monday morning, April 14, we will begin the training at 09:00 AM at RelyOn Nutec, where we will welcome all participants. From Monday to Thursday, daily buses will run from the Bastion Hotel Europoort in Brielle to RelyOn Nutec and back. Each day, we will provide lunch and a varied evening program, including drinks and dinner. On Wednesday evening, we will host a special event at the Zoet of Zout pavilion. Transportation from the hotel to the restaurants will also be arranged.
Training program
The training includes the following elements, among others:
Day 1:
Theory on foam (basics and regulations).
Practical:
Foam lab.
Creating foam concentrate and conducting a small extinguishing exercise with it.
Day 2:
Theory on the transition from AFFF to NFF 'from start to finish'.
Practical:
Different types of foam testing for various regulations.
Comparing throw distances at different expansion ratios and linking these to application methods and radiation contours.
Applying tactics and techniques for combating liquid fires. This is practiced on various scales, ranging from 9 m² to 80 m².
Day 3:
Theory on tank fire fighting.
Demonstrations of semi-fixed systems and scalable applications.
Practical:
Boil-over demonstration.
Tank firefighting demonstrations at various heights.
Hands-on extinguishing of full-surface and rim-seal fires.
(Using monitors, semi-fixed systems, foam wands, or Daspit tools).
Day 4:
Theory on logistical challenges for water and foam supply.
Demonstrations of high-flow monitors, pumps, and hoses.
Practical:
Carousel exercises in small groups covering the following topics:
The combined use of water and foam.
Differences between 2D and 3D liquid fires and the approach to tackling them using foam and powder (Hydro-Cam).
Energy transfer (radiation, conduction, and convection) and cooling techniques.
Costs
The cost for participation in Foam Academy Europe is €3,150 including VAT. This includes:
Transport from the hotel to RelyOn Nutec and back.
Transport from the hotel to the restaurants where the evening program takes place and back.
Lunch, dinner, and coffee/tea and snacks during the training.
Hotel accommodations are at your own expense. The Bastion Hotel Europoort in Brielle has reserved rooms for Foam Academy Europe participants.
