Electric monitors tankterminal Germany

After an expansion of a production environment, this customer had to maintain firefighting at the same level. For this reason, we have placed sixteen electrically controlled monitors at this tank terminal. These monitors are supplied with a control panel, to allow fire personnel to extinguish the fire remotely. The flow of these monitors is 6,000 l.p.m.

Analysis and advice

Based on the layout of the customer's production environment, accessibility and deployment speed were the biggest challenges when designing a system. To meet these business needs, the following principles for the design have been defined.

Design

The customer was made available two locations where the monitors can be controlled; at the tank park and from the control room. The key points of the solution designed are:

  1. Remote control

  2. Speed of deployment

  3. Seawater-resistant

  4. ATEX certified solution

Remote control

The monitors on the tank park are remotely controlled by a local cabinet. To provide additional security in emergency situations, there is also a radiographic remote control, to enable the staff to be mobile when a monitor is out of range. The monitors are suitable for water and foam.

Realization & Test cycle

The realization of the total project took four months. The Product Acceptance Test took place in Stellendam, the Netherlands. The complete extinguishing system was tested by us and the system was simultaneously checked by an objective third party.

Commissioning

For all extinguishing media and systems we perform second- and third-line, preventive and/or corrective maintenance. In addition, the customer has been trained to perform first-line maintenance. As part of the training, a manual with maintenance advice has been provided, especially for weekly or monthly routine maintenance. This ensures that the system is available at all times.
